7 Day Game Jam
A post-mortem is not something I do often. I have however found value in reflecting in my development processes as well as just a log of what I did and how long it took to accomplish something. Camera effects are new to me as well as volume mixers. The URP pipeline made the camera effects very easy to use. Hopefully using URP or HDRP will be something I continue to use in the future.
Things I feel went correctly:
1.) I had something I already wanted to implement, a maze. Re-writing the code for a 2D maze took about 2 days. There were no issues once this was finished.
2.) Every mechanic I wanted to put in the game I had made before. This also increased the amount of things I just threw into the game, and it worked.
3.) I rushed some pixel art, and splash art. It turned out exactly how I thought it would. Personally I think it looks horrible, but the time frame it took to make was spot on.
Things I did not do correctly.
1.) I spent to long trying to incorporate my idea into the theme. I eventually just went back to my original idea, a maze.
2.) I did not spend much time setting up my development area. My IDE, unity's editor or any other software I used to create things.
About half of the things worked correctly, so I lost about half a day setting things up appropriately.
3.) I did not spend enough time picking out or making sounds. I knew this would take longer, and did not allocate enough time to do this properly. 4 times the amount of time to do this would have been better.
